After Fauci, Why Trust The Climate Experts?
Dr. Anthony Fauci, who once equated attacks on himself with attacks on science, is now being held in contempt of Congress after his disastrous July 29 hearing. The face of pandemic expertise sat before a Senate committee and pleaded the Fifth more than 100 times, having nothing to say when confronted with his long record of dishonesty.It was more than awkward. It marked the collapse of a model of authority: the credentialed expert whose title was meant to end argument. If that model failed in medicine, why must we still defer to it on climate?
Science is a method. You advance a claim, test it, publish the data, invite refutation, and revise when proven wrong. Expertise earns trust only when tethered to that method.
An accountable expert makes predictions that they can fail and own the failures. An unaccountable one leans on credentials and institutions, labels dissent “denial,” and structures claims so they cannot be checked.
The public has noticed. American confidence in scientists dropped from 87% in 2020 to 73% by 2023 and has recovered only modestly. That is not anti-science. It is a........
