According to a report Friday from ESPN’s Shams Charania, who cited sources, it’s expected that legendary sharpshooter Klay Thompson will sign with the Miami Heat after he clears waivers following the Dallas Mavericks buying out his contract.

The 36-year-old Thompson was slated to get paid $17.5 million in the last season of his deal with Dallas, who made the announcement Friday afternoon that he was being bought out. (RELATED: Massive Brawl Breaks Out Between Dolphins, Giants During Joint Practice)

The buyout for Thompson was initiated after he informed the Mavs that he wanted to compete for a franchise who could contend for a championship. Dallas went 26-56 in the 2025-26 season.
