American politics used to host lively debates about policy, priorities, and the future of our nation. Americans were not bitterly divided; we didn’t look down in disgust at our neighbors who disagreed with who we thought ought to be in the White House. Nevertheless, at some point in the last few decades, we lost any semblance of the tame system that once characterized our political apparatus. Instead, it has been replaced with partisan politics hyper-focused on social issues that affect the few, while forgetting the many.

The ineffectiveness of this political machine is evident; it is difficult to find a better encapsulation of the state of our politics than the bipartisan push to simply pay for votes. Gone are the days of actually running campaigns, policy platforms, or diplomacy; the political overlords have sunk the economy, driven up costs, and cheered on sky-high inflation, but worry not, in return they have humbly offered to pay for your vote.

As the chosen few deprive the American economy and abandon the average man, leaving him struggling to afford food, pay for an education, own property, or start a family. The powerful are busy chasing their own egotistical political aspirations and bowing to special interests willing to line their campaign coffers so they can tighten their grip around the jugular of our union. And to maintain their power? Graciously return some of that cash back to the people, in exchange for your vote, of course.
