This Summer, Grow Sweet Muskmelons at Home — No Fancy Gardening Needed

On a blistering summer afternoon, when the air feels heavy and the ceiling fan does little more than push warm air around, few things feel as comforting as a bowl of freshly cut muskmelon. It is light, cooling, and indulgent. But here is a thought. What if that sweetness did not come from a market run, but from a vine you grew yourself right at home?

Muskmelon is surprisingly forgiving to grow, even if you are just starting. With a bit of planning and regular care, you can coax this summer favourite to flourish in your own space.

1. Start with the right seeds

Choose good-quality muskmelon seeds from a trusted nursery or save seeds from a ripe and healthy fruit. Local, open-pollinated varieties tend to adapt better to the climate and often taste sweeter.
