At 70, He Works 12 Hours a Day to Serve 1500 Idlis at Just Rs 5 Each
Every morning, a tiny shop in Karnataka fills with the aroma of steaming idlis and the chatter of eager customers. Many have driven nearly two hours from Bengaluru for a plate that still costs just Rs 5.
Behind the counter is 70-year-old Ramchandra, who has spent the last 56 years serving generations of people with the same cherished recipe and an unwavering commitment to feeding everyone who walks through his doors.
A father’s recipe became a family’s legacy
The story began in 1972 when Ramchandra's father started selling 10 idlis for just Rs 1. At only 16 years old, Ramchandra joined him, learning not just how to grind batter and steam idlis, but also the value of feeding people with care.
Even today, every batch reminds him of his father.
"Whenever I make the batter, I remember him standing beside me," he says.
