The UK version of an American reality show, described as both "disappointing" and "unbearable", has been axed before even entering the production stage.

Stars On Mars, which was being developed by Britain's Got Talent makers Thames, would have sent celebrities dressed as astronauts to live in a simulation of the red planet.

The finale would have seen the last “celebronaut” left standing declared the winner.
