'No longer viable': Bay Area family farm to close for future housing

Andy’s Orchard, a family-owned farm in Morgan Hill best known for its rare stone fruit, plans to raze thousands of trees next year when the 69-year-old farm is sold to make way for proposed housing.
Andy’s Orchard owner Andy Mariani, 80, told SFGATE that he anticipates selling his 58-acre property by October 2027, when California real estate investment firm Mana Investments is expected to take over the storied farm to build 376 housing units, with about 7% set aside for affordable housing. Mariani said he was left with few other options.

“I grew up here, and it’s going to be tough moving, but it’s time to sell,” Mariani said. “The farm is struggling to survive. It’s just no longer viable.”
An LLC associated with Mana Investments has filed an application to subdivide the land, and the county is now preparing an environmental impact report for the project, according to planning documents. A spokesperson for Santa Clara County’s Department of........
