Locals fight plan for new neighborhood accessed through Yosemite

A new housing development proposed at the border of  Yosemite National Park is sending ripples of concern through nearby communities and park advocates. 

The plan calls for the construction of 110 modular homes north of the park's southern entrance, close to the community of Yosemite West. Twenty percent of the units are slated to be reserved for low-income residents. Behind the project is the developer Camp Yosemite LLC, a Fullerton company whose owners appear to have a murky history.

According to Mariposa County planning documents, the 31-acre property can only be accessed by traveling through the park on Park Service-managed roadways. Those familiar with Yosemite assert that the plan could spell disaster.
