50-year-old Carmel Valley diner once frequented by celebrities is closing

Since the 1960s, Wagon Wheel has been a Carmel Valley landmark. Now, the Western diner known for its eggs Benedict and biscuits and gravy is shutting its doors, owner Daniel Medina announced in an Instagram post.
“I’ve been struggling for about a year just to keep up with all the bills,” Medina told SFGATE. “Just our volume is not what it used to be ever since COVID.”

The restaurant’s final day will be May 22, he said, unless they find new ownership to take over. It wouldn’t be the first time the local institution has changed hands.
