Snow falls at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area in California on Thursday, Oct. 22, as a winter storm pushes through the Sierra Nevada. The ski resort is set to open on Nov. 13.

Elevation played a big role in this storm, and likely will continue to influence snowfall this winter, with El Niño predicted to bring warm and wet storms to the Sierra Nevada.

The Eastern Sierra led the snow totals with more than 6 inches of snow at Mammoth Mountain’s summit, elevation 11,053 feet, as of Friday morning. And snow flurries were still coming down, a spokesperson for Mammoth Mountain, Mike Imes, said in an email to SFGATE. Opening day for Mammoth Mountain is set for Friday, Nov. 13, less than a month away.
