The San Francisco Giants have been quietly enduring a season-long problem, one that has nothing to do with their flailing record on the field. Apparently, the chicken tenders available at several locations throughout the ballpark have changed — and not in a good way.

For years, fans have been able to get chicken tenders and french fries at two of the ballpark’s staple concession stands: the Derby Grill and Gilroy Garlic Fries. The combo has lasted through a changing of the concessionaire guard in 2024, when Aramark took over running the team’s food services, and is now even offered as a boxed-up version at the new express Doggie Diner stands.

As time has gone on, the price of the combo has steadily risen in line with the rest of the ballpark. Today, it’s listed at $19.59 before tax, with a small upcharge to have garlic fries instead. But that’s not what has fans so mad.

From Opening Day this season all the way through the penultimate home stand, longtime fans are finding that the chicken tenders have become noticeably smaller and thinner than in recent seasons. Complaints have been steadily stacking up on Reddit all season long, with many posting photos of their tenders to display what they say is a sharp drop in quality and size.

“The chicken tendies and garlic fries have fallen off so badly,” one Reddit post reads. “Could you guys post food pics from past seasons? I swear, these used to be bigger and came on a fat tray. Am I going crazy??” Replies poured in alongside lots of older photos, each backing up the original poster’s thoughts. In many images, not only does the chicken itself anecdotally appear to be bigger, but the food containers being used at the stadium also appear to have gotten smaller — a classic shrinkflation tactic.
