Have you had your fill of sports?
Olympic news, the good, the bad and the ugly, was rampant over the past couple weeks.
Have you had just about enough sports for a bit?
Olympic news, the good, the bad and the ugly, was rampant over a couple weeks. Heartbreaking losses, shocking wins, crashes, falls, nail-biters, injuries, surprising comebacks, triumphs, failures, etc. all played out on the world stage.
Have you had your fill of sports? Back to video
Athletes got engaged on the slopes, which to me is more performative than romantic or personal. Some things should just be private. What if she really doesn’t want to marry him? What’s she going to do standing there looking all sweaty, exhausted, with helmet hair and he’s on one knee producing a ring? She can’t very much ponder on it a bit and then say, “No, I don’t think so.” Maybe that’s the idea, eh?
Had a cross country skier lose a ski and continue on one, pushing with the boot until she could find someone to give her another ski. Had a very young Canadian hockey player, in a high stakes game, maintain composure long enough to score a penalty shot. These highlights show the caring, human aspect of competition.
Had some bad language spewed over microphones when our Canadian men’s curlers were accused of cheating. There is lots of video footage to prove or disprove the accusation and everyone can make up their own minds to the accuracy of the allegation so I am not going to throw my opinion into the mix.
Our Canadian women’s team was also accused of the same infraction. Have to wonder if some international teams were a bit intimidated by our Canadian teams and this was a way of throwing them off their game? Who knows, I’m just sayin’. I was heartbroken for our women curlers.
Several athletes have also used foul language in interviews, etc. Using that kind of language at any time is a horrendous example to set for young fans. The apologies don’t help one bit. I say if you don’t talk like that in your everyday conversations you won’t “accidently” use it in public, forcing you to make stupid statements of regret on camera. Just clean up your mouth.
It was difficult to watch figure skating final, hockey and curling semi-finals all at the same time. The committee should schedule things better for the fans. Maybe they should hire my sister Denise to organize the programs. She’s one efficient and effective, if not somewhat annoying, co-ordinator extraordinaire.
Did not watch a lot of the snowboard and ski jumping stuff since it all seems the same to me. A cork, cab, wildcat, switch, ollie, nollie, knuckle, all look alike whether a 1260 or a 1980. I do know the difference between goofy foot, natural or switch but can’t tell when watching. Skiing also has cork jumps, alley oop, Lincoln loop, misty flip and float spins but don’t ask me what they look like. They all do them so fast it’s hard to tell the difference.
I have to admit, I watch all the figure skating even though I don’t know a toe loop from a Lutz, Salchow or axel unless they tell me. I think they have something to do with edges and direction of take-off. There is just so much other stuff going on in figure skating with each performer it’s fun and lovely to watch even if you don’t know the technical stuff.
Enough already! We need to take a break and put our minds to other important things. We have had some warm weather and lots of rain a sure indication spring is coming. There are so many matters we need to be thinking about like cleaning closets, washing windows, garden and yard clean up, possible renovations or some painting, maybe planning summer holidays and, oh yeah, taxes.
