This week I want to talk about an exhibit that is opening Friday at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa.

When the Civil War started in 1861, what we call the country of Canada today was still a group of British colonies and territories.

But the ramifications of such an existential struggle so close to us, and the impact it had outside of its borders, including in Canada, led some leaders in the colonies – Canada West and East, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, etc. – to think seriously about joining together.
