Chiquita's CEO warned El Niño could make 2027 the worst year for bananas in decades

Chiquita Brands International CEO Carlos López Flores warned that banana sales across the industry will shrink in 2027, and that costs will probably climb, according to Bloomberg. He said next year could prove the toughest the sector has faced in decades.

López Flores said El Niño, along with geopolitical upheaval, is complicating banana cultivation for suppliers across Latin America. "We are forecasting a very challenging end of 2026 and a very challenging start of next year for the industry," he said, according to........
