What Anthropic's IPO filing says about revenue, net loss and investor valuations
Anthropic's IPO filing shows about $16.3 billion in first-half revenue, an $80.7 billion net loss and 22 banks on the deal — here are 10 numbers explained

Anthropic lost $693 million from operations in the first half of 2026. Over the same six months, its net loss came to $80.7 billion. The first figure tracks the business of building and selling AI products. The second also absorbs items that sit outside day-to-day operations. That gap shows why the numbers in the Anthropic IPO filing need careful reading.
Anthropic was founded in 2021 by researchers who had left OpenAI after disagreements over governance and AI safety. The company, which develops the Claude AI models, has now opened its books to prospective public shareholders. Reuters reports that the listing is expected before Thanksgiving. No firm date has been confirmed.
The filing arrives during a run of very large listings. SpaceX priced a $75 billion IPO in June at a $1.75 trillion valuation. OpenAI filed confidentially that same month. Reuters reports it is expected to list by early 2027. That puts Anthropic and the company its founders left on separate paths toward public markets.
A prospectus is the document a company files before selling shares to the public. It lays out financial results, the risks management sees and the terms of the offering. Anthropic's version covers revenue and quarterly growth, operating and net losses, and the costs of the computing power its models depend on. It also describes its reliance on a few cloud providers, warnings about how its AI models might behave and the banks lined up to manage the sale.
The 10 slides below walk through a selection of figures from the prospectus and the reporting around it. Each figure keeps the reporting period the filing gives it, whether that is the first half of 2026 or the three months ended June 30. Valuations from some current and prospective investors are presented as their views, not as company statements. Each slide explains what its number measures and what it leaves out.
$80.7 billion: Anthropic's first-half 2026 net loss

Anthropic reported a net loss of $80.7 billion for the first half of 2026 in its IPO prospectus. Reuters reports that most of that loss came from a rise in the fair value of bonds that can be converted into Anthropic shares.
The $80.7 billion is a net loss. That is the bottom line after every item on the income statement is counted, including financing and valuation items. It does not measure how far the cost of building and running Anthropic's models exceeded its revenue.
Changes in the value of convertible debt belong to that wider group of items. A convertible bond is a loan that its holder can swap for shares in the company that issued it. The holder gets regular debt terms plus the option to become a shareholder.
Some companies record these bonds at fair value. Under that approach, the bonds are measured again at the end of each reporting period. The new value reflects what the instrument is worth at that date, not what was originally borrowed.
For the issuer, convertible bonds are a liability. When their fair value goes up, the liability grows. That increase is recorded as a loss on the income statement. It is an accounting remeasurement rather than an operating expense. No cash leaves the company at the moment the loss is recorded.
The conversion feature ties the bonds' value to the issuer's shares. When the shares the bonds can convert into become more valuable, the option to convert is worth more. That can raise the bonds' fair value and, with it, the reported loss.
Reuters attributes most of the first-half loss to this fair-value change, not all of it. The rest comes from other items, including the costs of running the business. The filing's operating figures show how the business itself performed over the same six months.
