It’s always been a magical place to gather young and older singers with clusters of brightly painted wooden cabins and towering hemlocks. One hundred and fifty years of history for United Church folks.

There’s the space and the joyous task singers take on in signing up. They undertake to prepare a concert together in just one week’s time. Actors and dancers would have a similar creative challenge.

Added to this summer’s camps was a Birthday Bash marking the 50th anniversary of the provincial choral federation. Three generations were on hand. For example, busy choral conductor Amelia McMahon and her folk singing mom Cathy Arsenault took part, and so did Hugh Kindred and his granddaughter Elizabeth.

Valley Credit Union branch manager Troy Nixon, for example, attended his first Nova Scotia Choral Federation camp at the age of 10, later representing the province in the National Youth Choir and now serving on the board of the federation.

Us parental types (a.k.a. choral groupies) were on hand to wander the grounds, and watch singers relive camp memories. Those who returned........
