WENDY ELLIOTT: American gifts historic painting back to Wolfville
A delightful stroke of serendipity took place in the Town of Wolfville last month. Serendipity results when something occurs by chance in a happy or beneficial way.

The story began just after Christmas when Wolfville Mayor Jodi MacKay received an email from a fellow in Virginia.
Steve Shapiro included the image of a naïve or folk art style painting labelled Wolfville.
Shapiro indicated he and his wife were downsizing and they didn’t want to hang onto the work.
“We inherited the painting from my wife’s father who was a very active art collector in New England in the mid-20th century.”
While he said he always enjoyed looking at the painting, it was now surplus for them. Shapiro added that “it took me some effort to find your town,” but he persevered.
