So often we hear how Health P.E.I. CEO Melanie Fraser and her team are trying to make health-care more accessible. Yet when I visit my family doctor I see a notice prominently displayed. It states the doctor can only treat two issues per visit. So if I arrived with two broken legs and one broken arm, he can only address two out of the three. Yes of course this is an exaggeration but it does prove the point.

However, there is more. If I’m in need of a CT scan, MRI etc., my family doctor cannot request the service, it has to come from a specialist. I would like someone who makes these rules to explain how this makes the health-care system more accessible. Seems to me it makes it even more inaccessible. Indeed, would this in turn not surely reduce how a family doctor can efficiently run the practice? Of course Melanie Fraser or a member of her team would not be quick to respond to my questions.

Finally, I would suggest, is of course a way to cut doctor’s time with patients, and reduce such services as scans. Makes them look good on paper ?
