LETTER: Let's do more to celebrate Confederation
It was Sept. 1,1864 when an unknown ship hove to and dropped anchor in Charlottetown harbour. The circus was in town so the majority of folks ignored the ship. One inquisitive official took an oyster fishing dory with one oar and rowed out to see who was aboard the mysterious vessel. To his surprise it was contingent of gentlemen from Canada West and Canada East, 20 in all, come to meet with the Islanders with a plan that endures still. The creation of the nation – Canada. These 20 visitors were joined by five Islanders when their meetings opened later in the week.
