COMMENTARY: New equalization schedule shows Maritimes remain heavily reliant on Ottawa
Recently, the federal government released its schedule for equalization payments for the 2026-27 fiscal year, and the Maritime provinces remain heavily reliant on the equalization program and federal transfers. Consequently, the region’s already shaky government finances remain vulnerable to future changes in federal transfer policy.
