If he emerges victorious in the July 13 byelection, he gains a seat inside the rail and has a shot at being premier when Islanders go to the polls sometime between now and October of 2027. If he loses, the second chapter of his political career is over and he will effectively be left with two choices — quit or be forced out by the party.
