Travel can be one of life’s great pleasures, although I am mainly a do-it-yourself traveller and planning the trip is also part of the adventure. This used to involve poring over maps and leafing through tourist guides, but now I plan almost everything using the internet. 

Even better, rather than doing a search and sifting through a huge list of results, I mainly use Google’s specific apps and web services to efficiently plan a memorable trip. 

Google Travel (google.com/travel) is mainly interested in selling you a flight, hotel room or rental car, but when looking for available flights, it’s invaluable for comparing prices and options. Enter the destination and travel dates and Google Travel will display a list of all the available flights on numerous airlines. If you select a flight, you’ll get links to third-party booking sites, but also the link to the official airline website, which I prefer to use.
