The tech world is alive with big stories and controversies, but there are other interesting and often helpful items that pop up with little fanfare.

Here are three items I’ve recently come across that might be of interest to you.

Almost a year ago Windows 10 reached the end of its useful life. If your old clunker couldn’t run Win 11, you had the choice of investing a lot of money and time switching to a new Win 11 device, or using the old computer in defiance of dire warnings that Win 10 would become a security nightmare.

Luckily, Microsoft offered a reprieve and, if you paid $30 U.S. or synced your files to Microsoft’s OneDrive, you got one year of Extended Security Updates (ESU) until Oct. 12, 2026. 

That date is almost here, but don’t panic, and you can put away your credit card.

Microsoft has quietly extended the deadline by a year until October of next year, and you don’t have to do anything to get the extension.
