Wedges: Off the rack or tailored?
The custom wedge-fitting afternoon I participated in last week made me think of my friend Delor from The Gentry; once we have the right jacket size and colour and fabric, he would make his important, meticulous tweaks to the shoulders and sleeves with his white tailor’s chalk and pins. It’s the perfect analogy for wedge-fitting. The well-tailored jacket. You can spot it instantly. The way it hangs. How it is form fitting around the shoulders. How it makes wearing a suit a comfortable, confidence-building experience. Once you do it, you never go back. And so it is with wedges.
Today’s golf club manufacturers are not making a truly customized club, as in every aspect of its construction being unique for everyone. But rather making available a multitude of adaptations (loft, bounce, lie) to get the final product just right, the very best possible fit for you and your game.
Remember the days when we all........
