Shadow Creek Golf Course out of the shadows

It is said that what goes on in Vegas stays in Vegas. But it would be a dereliction of duties for a golf writer to keep the inside scoop from you.

To keep Shadow Creek in the shadows would be a crime. A crime worse than anything I saw happen at The Bellagio last week.

It’s fair to say that up until very recently, Las Vegas would have been the last place on earth you’d see me travelling to in search of great golf. Desert-area courses in Arizona and California never appealed to me.

Give me Pine Valley and Cypress Point over any course that has hosted the Bob Hope Classic. But that was before I experienced Shadow Creek. And I quickly learned that Shadow Creek changes your perspective on a lot of things.

The course opened in 1989 on a barren piece of sand and rocks 20 minutes north of the Las Vegas strip. Designed by Tom Fazio at a reported cost of $60 million, ($150 million in today’s dollars), it fulfilled casino mogul Steve Wynn’s vision of creating a super........
