Uncork the story bubbling up inside
After her husband Peter’s death in 2012, Mary Lou Green spent her days with her dog Lucy. To work through her emotions, she created artwork from melted crayons that looked like tears flowing down the page.
In 2016, she walked into an interview room with Lucy and asked to move into The Mount Community Centre.
“I figured Lucy was going to live with me, so they should meet her,” Mary Lou said. “I ended up with the best apartment in the place.”
Lucy loved it too, since she could look out and watch people and dogs go up and down Woodland Street. The dog also became Mary Lou’s bridge between her and other tenants. ” Everyone loved Lucy,” she said with a relaxed smile.
Only when her pet fell ill did Mary Lou truly learn the power of the community where they lived.
