The Railyard Café: Where modern design meets local flavour in Peterborough

I have been hesitant to share this special place as I have had the pleasure of enjoying the food and atmosphere since they opened their doors.

The Railyard Café is located at 127 Hunter St. E. in East City. If you are walking along the Trans Canada Trail, you will notice the patio filled with laughter and conversations.

As you walk through the entrance, a server welcomes you and guides you to your seat. You will notice you are walking over floors that are a piece of epoxy concrete art.

There is a modern industrial feel to this café and it is complimented by the natural light that pours in through the many windows that overlook Hunter Street.

There was one day where I sat at a table looking out at the beautiful snowfall and I thought to myself, how wonderful is this?

As I waited for my Cinnamon Chai Latte, I looked at the walls honouring East City’s history proudly as if they were an exhibit in the Peterborough Museum and Archives.

There are large maps showcased and subtle hints of rail station fun throughout. One of my favourite things about this special place is the menu that is hanging above the beautiful wooden bar as you walk in. It switches every 10 minutes like a boarding itinerary and outlines different menu options or positive messages or pictures. Next time you visit, make sure that you have a look.

I have personally eaten at the Railyard Café and I have enjoyed the high quality foods served. I highly recommend visiting for breakfast, lunch or dinner. This is a cool place to get coffee and drinks too. Recently, I scheduled three meetings in one morning and enjoyed the atmosphere. The commute was short which was nice.

I love when the waitress shares the weekly specials list. It is an exciting way to try a new dish you know will be on the menu in the future if it does well. Help restaurant owners, help you eat delicious food.

I have visited the café since its opening and I have thoroughly tried their menu items. Throughout that time frame, I have found the quality of the food and service to be consistently excellent.

Whether attending an event downstairs in their private party room, hosting a meeting or enjoying a meal in the café, I have enjoyed the atmosphere.

The staff are a vital part of the experience as they are the backbone of this successful café and directly contribute to guest satisfaction. Their long term presence has allowed each of them to develop a deep understanding of the menu, service standards, and overall operations, allowing them to deliver efficient, high quality service every shift.

I am personally greeted by name since I have become a regular, and I genuinely appreciate the opportunity to connect with the staff each time I stop in. There is a strong sense of trust, comfort and familiarity that keeps me returning to this restaurant.

This is one of the reasons why I purchased my own Railyard Café hoodie as it reflects more than just an appreciation for their branding, it represents my pride in supporting and feeling connected to the culture they have created.
