Kawartha Potters Guild member Tonja Mulder started creating pottery last year when she went out with a friend to a local pottery studio, bought some clay and had some fun.

“I really loved the experience, so I started taking hand building classes at the Kawartha Potters Guild with Brenda Barron in the spring of 2025,” says Mulder. “I took two classes at the guild, and have been involved in the Saturday morning clay club on occasion since. I had been looking for a creative outlet of some sort and just wanted to try something new. I truly didn’t expect to love pottery as much as I do!”

In her home pottery studio, Mulder does hand building, mostly slab and some coil, and most of her pieces incorporate carving. She creates vases, bowls and larger serving platters which use weaving and jute edging. She also makes planters with asymmetrical slabs and multimedia........
