When she was 25 years old, Kawartha Potters Guild member Emoke Wilson took a clay workshop in Toronto and fell in love with the medium.

“As a child, I collected rocks, and maybe clay reminded me of rocks,” says Wilson. “Once I discovered clay, I dove right in to learn as much as I could about the kinds of clay out there and the various techniques that were available with which to create pottery.” 

Her signature pieces are bowls, small, medium or large, using soft clay slabs that she tears apart and joins back together like puzzle pieces. She says that this way, her designs can have both open and closed spaces. She says that large, egg-shaped bowls work well using this technique and often she will add a wooden base, made using driftwood to hold the bowls.
