One of best things and the thing that keeps wildlife photography so interesting is that it is full of surprises. On any given day, when you least expect it, something that you have never seen before can pop out of the grass right in front of you, or swim around the corner of a hidden cove into view, or an animal can do something that you have never seen it do before.

I was out photographing the bald eagles. The adults were having trouble with the young eagle that had just fledged. I will tell you that story in an upcoming column, but during this activity the adults returned to the nest a couple of times. Each time they did, they were harassed by a pair of eastern kingbirds.

Kingbirds are known for being staunch defenders of their nesting territory. This is part of where they get their name from. They will dive-bomb........
