Owen Michaels is an undrafted right-shot centre out of Detroit, and after captaining Western Michigan University, signed with the Edmonton Oilers on April 2.

However, Michaels did need to be re-signed this summer and is now on a two-year contract that will pay $900,000 per year. In three years and 119 games played, the 24-year-old pivot scored 33 goals and totalled 69 points with the Broncos. Michaels’ best season came in 2024-2025 when he scored 18 goals and assisted on another 18 in 42 games; this season saw the Michigan product take a step back as Michaels only scored 13 goals with 26 total points in 39 games.

In my opinion, Michaels is a very simple player: there isn’t one single trait that “wows” me, but the right-shot centre thinks the game very well, and I find him to be an excellent defensive player. Simple isn’t meant to be a negative point, if there is a passing lane that is open, Michaels will make that pass.
