Instant Reaction: Oilers defeat Flames 4-1 to finish NHL preseason with a perfect record
How does a 4-0-0 preseason sound?
On Saturday, the Edmonton Oilers played their fourth and final tune-up game before the real thing, defeating the Calgary Flames by a score of 4-1. Let’s take a look at what went on in this one!
It took over 16 minutes for the game to get its first goal. On a power play with about three minutes to play in the opening frame, Connor McDavid received the puck near the point and drove down low. At the same time, Zach Hyman bumped Yan Kuznetsov, giving him all the space in the world when McDavid decided to pass. As he’s done since joining the Oilers, Hyman tapped it in to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead.

Eight minutes into the second period, the Oilers struck again. The Flames’ defender flubbed a keep in attempt, sending the Oilers on an odd-man rush the other way. Vasily Podkolzin found the trailer, Leon Draisaitl, who found McDavid all alone on the side of the goal to make it 2-0.
