Why did no one see my dad being shot?

Police estimate that more than 200 people were in Kissena Park on the afternoon of May 18. Yet somehow, my 75-year-old father was shot and killed in broad daylight, and nearly three months later, no one has come forward to say they saw anything.

How does someone commit such a brutal crime in a busy city park, surrounded by hundreds, and disappear without anyone seeing something that could help investigators?

The victim was my father, Albert “Avrumie” Itzkowitz. To most people, he was the friendly neighborhood baker who greeted every customer with a smile. To me, he was Dad.

Some of my earliest memories are of playing baseball with him in the park near our home in Flushing. He taught me how to throw, catch and, more importantly, that there was no better way to spend an afternoon than together.
