Thursday night, Donald Trump launched into a primetime TV diatribe rehashing his obsession with the idea that the 2020 election was stolen from him and that forthcoming elections must be made more “secure” in ways that ultimately keep eligible people from voting in a way that benefits him. This time around, he pointed to declassified documents he said showed China had meddled in 2020.

The evidence doesn’t show that; the documents vaguely note that entities affiliated with the Chinese government might have obtained some voter information, well short of the fantasy that they manipulated the results to engineer Joe Biden’s victory.

Ironically, the biggest threat to our election integrity contemplated by this speech is the speech itself, and the efforts by the man who gave it to cast doubt on our election systems and results for entirely personally........
