"Upskirting" - taking pictures or videos under a person's clothing without consent in order to see their genitals or underwear - was made a separate criminal offence in 2019 with offenders facing up to two years in prison.

Byford, of Abbey Road in Watton, pleaded not guilty at Norwich Magistrates’ Court to committing the offence in order to obtain sexual gratification.

Judge Matthew Bone said his trial was suitable to be heard before magistrates but Byford elected for it to be heard before a jury at Norwich Crown Court.

He was given unconditional bail until a trial preparation hearing on March 31.

Before the change in the law offenders could only be prosecuted for voyeurism or outraging public decency.

But voyeurism only applies to filming in "private" while outraging public decency usually requires a witness - and upskirting often goes unobserved.
