Man died after setting himself on fire and crashing car during family dispute

Luke Halladay had got out of his overturned and blazing vehicle before the emergency services arrived at the crash scene and told them he had tried put on the flames on himself in a pond.

However, he had suffered catastrophic burns to more than 90pc of his body and died hours later in hospital.

An inquest into the death of the father-of-three, held at Norfolk Coroner's Court, was told he had been struggling with his mental health following the breakdown of his marriage and ongoing legal disputes over access to his children.

His wife, Kim Halladay, told the court the couple met when she was 18 and married shortly after the birth of their first child. They later had two more children.

She described him as intelligent, hardworking and utterly devoted to his family.

"He always provided for us as a family and was such a hard grafter.

“The children adored him and he adored them. He never stopped caring about them and they never stopped loving their dad.”

She said he always wanted to be present in their lives and the separation had deeply affected him.

However, she said he struggled to control his temper, which had placed strain on the relationship.

His mother, Heather Aardvark, also paid tribute, describing her son as loving, caring and fun to be around.

She said he would often start work as early as 4am so he could finish sooner and spend more time with his children.
