Speaking at a review hearing at Norfolk Coroner's Court, they argued more time was needed to prepare for an “incredibly forensic and traumatic” examination of the events leading up to Gemma Marjoram's murder.

Area coroner Yvonne Blake agreed to postpone the full hearing after lawyers representing Ms Marjoram’s family said they had still not received vital evidence.

Although a number of witness statements have since been provided, counsel for the family said key evidence remains outstanding.

The inquest had been due to begin on September 7 but will now be relisted for a later date.

Anna Morris KC, representing Ms Marjoram’s family, said the outstanding evidence left them unable to prepare properly for a hearing expected to examine not only her death but the actions of police and other agencies responsible for safeguarding victims of domestic abuse.

She told the court: “Four months’ delay in the investigation leaves the family in a very difficult position.

“We have not seen the disclosure necessary to make submissions before the scheduled full hearing.
