Paul Flack, 55, was found hanging in the garden of his Norwich home on Father’s Day, June 21, after spending what his family described as a happy day together.

His partner, Joanna Millington, told Norfolk Coroner’s Court that Mr Flack had experienced periods of low mood following a series of devastating events, including his sister’s death, her own cancer diagnosis and the loss of his father.

In a moving statement read to the court she said: "Paul’s sister took her own life and not long after we went into lockdown.

“I do not think Paul ever recovered from this.”

However, despite the circumstances of his death, area coroner Johanna Thompson did not record a conclusion of suicide because Mr Flack had been heavily intoxicated, leaving his "intentions unknown."

The court heard he had an alcohol concentration of 296mg per 100ml of blood, which is more than four times the legal drink-drive limit in England.

In a particularly poignant witness statement, a neighbour recalled hearing Ms Millington crying out after discovering her partner.

“His sister did this, his sister did this,” she reportedly said.

The neighbour also recalled her saying Mr Flack had not been right since his father died and that it was Father’s Day.

The inquest heard harrowing details of Mr Flack’s final hours, including how his 20-year-old daughter discovered him in the garden using the torch on her mobile phone.

Earlier that day, the family had woken him with a cup of tea and Father’s Day cards.

Their son’s girlfriend had joined them for lunch in the garden before leaving at around 5.30pm.
