Racism row breaks out at primary school… over 'Crazy Hair Day' fundraiser

Jazmin Amour, 33, has lodged a formal complaint with the Inspiration Trust about the event, which will take place at Charles Darwin Primary on Friday.

Ms Amour, who is white, argues the theme is a "tone deaf microaggression" and has questioned how Black History Month is recognised across schools within the Trust.

Ms Amour's sons, who are also both white, attend the Trust's Charles Darwin Primary School and Jane Austen College.

She said school communications encouraged children to take part in the fundraiser and stated "the crazier the better" when styling their hair.

Ms Amour says the event is racist because it "minimises something that is culturally significant to black people down to effectively a costume when it is labelled as crazy."

Some hairstyles, such as afros and braids, have historically been linked to the cultural identity of black people.

She added: "Critics argue that pushing an event mocking hair choices during Black History Month is a severe, tone-deaf microaggression - especially given that the school serves a large demographic of Caribbean, African, and Muslim children who are either marginalised or entirely excluded by the theme."

Crazy Hair Day has been popular in schools across the country for years as a way to raise money for charities........
