New bar a step closer as details given the green light

Under the plans lodged by John Taylor, music from the converted St Michael at Plea church in Redwell Street will be monitored by a sound-level meter permanently installed in the venue, to make sure it keeps within the council's required levels.

The bid to transform the church into a late night venue was given the go ahead by Norwich City Council in July last year - subject to the measures being put in place.

It came after neighbours near the site objected to the plans over fears the piano bar would result in excessive noise.

Details for the internal finishes, lighting and sound systems have also been approved.

Norwich City Council had previously said Mr Taylor could not open past midnight – with music needing to stop at 11pm.

But the businessman vowing to fight the council’s opening time restriction launched an appeal with government inspectors and has won.
