James Jobson has been in custody since Monday when he appeared in court charged with misconduct in public office following the widespread disorder which erupted in the town earlier this month.

The court was told police believe the 62-year-old - a Serco cleaner employed to inspect houses in multiple occupation (HMOs) used by asylum seekers – had posted videos online which were filmed in the properties.

They are said to have been uploaded on a Facebook account called The HMO Inspector, which prosecutors say is central to the case against Jobson.

Monday’s court hearing was told the police believe Jobson, from Costessey, is behind the account and that the posts played a crucial role in sparking three nights of disorder, which saw asylum seekers escorted by officers from three Thetford properties as angry crowds tried to force their way in.

But while Jobson has been in prison, the account has remained active.

On Wednesday evening, more than 48 hours after Jobson’s hearing, it posted a message saying: “I'm not in jail, just being careful after what happened to the honourable man who is.

“I have no connection to him” and “I have never met him,” the message added.

The account has since gone on to upload two more videos from inside properties in Norwich in the last two days, and has said it will release more.

Police say they are aware of the new posts.
