Pricilla Bacon Hospice charity shop, which took more than £5,000 during its opening weekend, has quickly become a hit in Timberhill.

Jordon Codling, head of retail for the charity, said they have been rapidly replacing stock at the site with donations from their warehouse in Drayton.

He said: "It has been our most successful shop opening we have had by far.

"Usually, we have a bumper opening period where it's particularly busy, and then it will gradually slow down.

"The first couple of weeks were crazy, but it hasn't really died down yet.

"We took more than £5,000 in the first weekend.

"The challenge we have faced is that we have very nearly emptied our warehouse.

"It has exceeded all of our expectations.

"Tracy Henry, our compliance and operations lead, did a call out for donations in a radio interview with BBC Radio Norfolk, a couple of weeks ago.

"She represented the charity and provided an update on the Timberhill shop following its opening.

"The interview also served as an opportunity to encourage further stock donations from the local community in support of the charity’s ongoing work."

The store, which sells a range of designer clothes and bric-a-brac, replaced Ginger, one of Norwich's longest-established businesses.

Mr Codling said: "We pride ourselves on higher-end products.

"Because of the clientele the shop attracts, we can raise more through gift aid.

"Some 64pc of the transactions in the opening weekend were processed under our gift aid scheme, significantly enhancing the overall contribution to the charity.

"It has blown everything we expected out of the water."
