Plans to keep pop-up shop at garden centre after 'overwhelming support'

Bosses at Priscilla Bacon Hospice are hoping Broadland District Council's planners will allow them to keep running two containers, which are being used as one of their charity shops, at Taverham Garden Centre.

According to the planning papers put forward by Fearn Hambling on behalf of the hospice, the small shop has been at the garden centre on Fir Covert Road for a "number of years".

Agents for the charity said: "It is hoped that Broadland can support the application on behalf of Priscilla Bacon as the unit has been in situ for a number of years as a non-profit pop-up charity shop, supporting Priscilla Bacon Hospice. There has been overwhelming support from local residents in Taverham and adjacent parishes."

The plans do not detail addition parking spaces as customers of the pop-up shop use the garden centre's car park.

If approved, it would be the second pop-up for the charity this year to get the go-ahead to remain in place in Norwich.

Another Priscilla Bacon Hospice Charity Shop is located two miles away in Drayton on School Road on land between a dental surgery and the Barclays bank.

Planners for South Norfolk Council extended permission in February for the containers to continue to be used until 2028, saying they continue to provide "a valuable contribution to the facilities available in the village and to the local economy".

The pop-ups are used to raise funds for the hospice to support plans to develop new hospice premises.

The Priscilla Bacon Hospice provides specialist Palliative Care Services, specialist advice and support for any patients with life-limiting illness and those close to them.

While many patients are well supported by their primary care teams, some have more complex needs that require input from our specialist multidisciplinary team.
