The Green Party has selected Martin Schmierer to stand in next month's by-election to replace the departed Sarah Taylor, who resigned from the role with immediate effect on June 3.

Mr Schmierer is a Norwich city councillor for Mancroft ward and the council's cabinet member for finance.

He was Lord Mayor of Norwich in 2018 and 2019 and is a former leader of the Green group at City Hall.

Mr Schmierer, who works as a communications manager for the charity Voluntary Norfolk, is no stranger to the battle to become police and crime commissioner.
