Gemini Skills arrive to take on ChatGPT and Claude workflows

Google has launched reusable Skills for Gemini Apps to automate repeatable workflows. Here is how they work, how to create one and how they compare with ChatGPT and Claude skills.

Google has launched Skills for Gemini Apps, giving users a way to save reusable instructions, reference material and workflows instead of rebuilding the same prompt for every task. Gemini can apply an enabled skill automatically when a request matches, or users can select one directly.

The feature is aimed at people who repeat structured work such as turning bank statements into spreadsheets, drafting product descriptions, following a house writing style or creating documents from a standard template. Google says Skills are rolling out first to adults using personal Google Accounts, with availability varying by app and account.
