Economics Nobel 2026: Robert Hall, Michael Woodford win for work on inflation and growth

American economists Robert E Hall and Michael Woodford have won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Economics for their contributions to understanding economic stability. Their research has helped governments and central banks develop better models to manage inflation, recessions and changes in consumer spending.

Hall, a professor at Stanford University, and Woodford, a professor at Columbia University, will share the prize money of 12 million Swedish kronor equally. Their research has helped economists understand how decisions made by ordinary households and businesses influence the wider economy. The findings have since become part of economic models used by central banks and governments worldwide.
