Why HC ordered Rs 5 lakh compensation for DU graduate from Noida DM’s salary

The Allahabad High Court has ordered Rs 5 lakh compensation for Delhi University graduate Akriti Chaudhary, who spent nearly five months in custody over the April Noida workers’ protest. The amount will be recovered from the Gautam Buddha Nagar DM’s salary. The court also quashed her NSA detention and criticised the administration.

The Allahabad High Court has ordered Rs 5 lakh compensation for 25-year-old Delhi University graduate Akriti Chaudhary, who spent nearly five months in judicial custody following the April 2026 Noida workers’ protest.

The court has directed that the compensation be recovered from the salary of Gautam Buddha Nagar District Magistrate Medha Roopam, who had ordered Chaudhary’s preventive detention under the National Security Act (NSA).

A bench of Justices Atul Sreedharan and Achal Sachdev quashed the detention order on September 2. Its detailed judgment was made public on Monday.
