Kochi Police Commissioner transferred over lapses in Mercedes hit-and-run involving judge’s son

Kochi Police Commissioner Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar has been transferred amid criticism of the investigation into a fatal crash involving a Mercedes driven by a judge’s 17-year-old son. Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala acknowledged lapses, while four police personnel were suspended. The case has now been transferred to the District Crime Branch.

Kochi City Police Commissioner Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar has been transferred following criticism of the police response to a fatal road accident involving a Mercedes-Benz allegedly driven by the 17-year-old son of an additional district judge.

The move comes as Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala acknowledged shortcomings in the investigation and assured the state Assembly that action had been taken against police personnel found responsible. The case has also been handed over to the District Crime Branch for further investigation.
