Azamgarh: Man kills wife, son, 2 priests after fight over puja; later shot dead by police

A man allegedly shot dead his wife and two priests during a puja at his residence in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh. He later locked himself inside the house with his children and was killed in police firing after allegedly shooting at one child.

Azamgarh: A man allegedly shot dead his wife and two priests at his residence in Shambhupur village of Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh district on Tuesday, police said.

The incident took place under the Ahraula police station area. According to the police, the accused, identified as Arvind, used a licensed firearm during the attack.

Azamgarh Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Anil Kumar said the woman and two other people were killed in the shooting.

“The wife of the accused and two other persons have died.”

The initial police response focused on securing the house after Arvind locked himself inside a room with his children.

According to information gathered by police, Arvind returned home at around 6 pm and allegedly found his wife, Babita Singh, 32, taking part in a puja with priests.
