Why time alone cannot prepare us for the life we want
Why time alone cannot prepare us for the life we want
Time can soften pain, create distance and give us another chance, but it cannot automatically make us wiser or more prepared. In his column 'From the Silence Within', Santosh Nair reflects on patience, growth and whether we are becoming the person who can receive the opportunity we keep waiting for.
A young boy once received a violin from his grandfather. He was delighted and wanted to play a beautiful song immediately. But when he moved the bow across the strings, the sound was unpleasant. He tried again, harder this time, but nothing improved. Angry and disappointed, he put the violin away. His grandfather asked, “Why have you stopped?” The boy replied, “Perhaps I am not meant to play.” The old man smiled and said, “You have held the violin for ten minutes and already decided what you can become. What if the music is waiting for someone you have not yet grown into?” The boy looked at him, puzzled. He had believed that wanting something badly was enough to deserve it. He had not understood that sometimes the distance between a dream and its fulfilment is not measured in days, but in the person we become along the way.
We often imagine time as a key that opens every closed door. When something does not happen, we tell ourselves that the right moment has not arrived. There is comfort in this belief. A wound needs time to heal. A friendship damaged by harsh words may need silence before conversation becomes possible. A difficult skill cannot be mastered........
